David Berry

David Berry has over 17 years of work experience in various roles within the technology industry. David is currently working as the Head of Engineering for SBS On Demand at Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia, a position they have held since August 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Engineering & Delivery Lead for SBS On Demand from April 2018 to September 2021.

Before joining SBS, David worked as the Head of Engineering at Switch Media, overseeing software and platform development teams. During their time there, they focused on fostering a healthy engineering culture and transitioning the company from a startup to a medium-sized enterprise. David held this role from April 2017 to April 2018.

David also has experience at News Corp Australia, where they served as the Platform Manager responsible for designing, developing, and delivering digital platforms. David played a pivotal role in transitioning the department to adopt a DevOps culture and cloud infrastructure. David worked at News Corp Australia from June 2014 to April 2017, starting as a Senior PHP Developer before being promoted to the role of Platform Manager.

Prior to that, David worked as a Senior Software Developer at Spring.me, a startup social network. David was responsible for adding features to the company's internal PHP REST API. David held this position from December 2013 to May 2014.

David's career also includes roles as a Web Systems Administrator at Australian National University, a Senior Developer at Affiliate Window, and a Freelance Web Developer at Pretty Graphic. David started their career as a Help Desk Officer at Telstra, where they provided support to Australian Defence Force users.

Throughout their career, David has demonstrated their expertise in engineering, software development, platform management, and fostering engineering cultures.

David Berry attended Swinburne University of Technology from 2005 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Multimedia Networks & Computing. David studied a range of subjects including multimedia, information technology, networking, system administration, 3D animation, and graphic design. In February 2018, David obtained certification as a Certified ScrumMaster® from the Scrum Alliance.
