Kristof Van Emelen

Kristof Van Emelen has an extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

Kristof is currently serving as the VP Drug Discovery at Scenic Biotech since January 2023. Prior to this, they founded Biotilia BV in December 2019 and remains in the role of Founder.

In the past, they have held the position of Head Medicinal Chemistry at Ermium Therapeutics from January to December 2022. Kristof also worked at VIB as an Entrepreneur In Residence from December 2019 to December 2022.

Before that, Kristof had significant roles at ProDigest from 2017 to 2019, including COO Product Development and CSO Product Development.

Kristof also worked at Janssen, Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson, where they served as the Scientific Director - Emerging Sciences and Innovation from 2013 to 2017. Prior to this, they were the Scientific Director Advanced Chemical Sciences from an unspecified date in 2011 until February 2013.

Earlier in their career, Kristof worked at Tibotec as the Director Medicinal Chemistry from 2007 to 2011. Kristof also had various roles at Janssen, including Program Leader from an unspecified date in 2003 until 2006, Chemistry Team Leader from an unspecified date in 1999 until 2003, and Scientist Medicinal Chemistry from an unspecified date in 1997 until 1999.

Throughout their career, they have shown expertise in drug discovery, medicinal chemistry, entrepreneurship, and forming productive partnerships with academia and biotechs.

Kristof Van Emelen received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organic Chemistry from KU Leuven. Kristof pursued their studies in this field from 1988 to 1997.
