Assistant Superintendents, South Philadelphia HS at School District of Philadelphia

Dr. Jonathan Alfred Brown is an assistant superintendent in the School District of Philadelphia where he leads 12 comprehensive high schools and nearly 8,000 students from some of the most challenging communities, not just in the city, but in the nation. This year, his schools are focusing on enhancing student engagement by ensuring they lay one brick perfectly, each day in pursuit of the ideal school. In his prior experience, Dr. Brown, previously served students in New York State for more than 20 years, most recently as the deputy superintendent in the Arlington Central School District in Dutchess County, NY. His responsibilities included leading the curriculum, instruction and assessment department, the district’s equity initiative, school accountability, student discipline, professional learning and continuing education. Prior to that, he established himself as a turnaround expert, leading Benjamin Turner Middle School in Mount Vernon from the lowest performing designation to good standing. Dr. Brown has also held instructional positions at Manhattanville College, Fordham University, St. John Fisher College, and is currently instructing at Bank Street College.
