Gerald Heisig

SVP of Research & Technology Development at Scientific Drilling

Gerald Heisig joined Scientific Drilling International in 2011 and is responsible for the development and enhancement of SDI’s tool and service portfolio at SDI’s three technology centers in Paso Robles (California), Houston (Texas) and Celle (Germany).

He has more than 25 years of experience in the drilling industry with various positions in Product Line Management and Operations Support. Prior to joining SDI, Gerald worked for Baker Hughes for 18 years in Germany, the US and in Malaysia. He led the development and commercialization of an industry-leading downhole drilling dynamics data acquisition and processing tool, which has provided new insights into the downhole drilling environment and became the key component of a true real-time drilling optimization service. He has authored or co-authored about 20 papers mostly on drilling dynamics and mechanics as well as on drilling optimization. He also holds several patents on drilling-related technologies and concepts.

Gerald holds a Diploma and a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University in Braunschweig, Germany. His thesis on the modeling of the dynamic and static behavior of BHAs provided the foundation for today’s industry-leading BHA analysis and simulation programs.
