Alex Hartz is a partner at SciFi VC. Alex previously worked as a strategist at Glow, Inc from June 2015 to August 2016. Prior to that, they were an analyst at HVF Labs from June 2015 to December 2016. Alex also worked as a summer analyst at HVF Labs in June 2014 to August 2014. Alex's responsibilities included due diligence, market research and analysis, screening, and other tasks to facilitate angel investing activities. Alex also attended dozens of startup pitches and interacted with executives from portfolio companies. Before that, they were a summer undergraduate research fellow at Caltech from June 2013 to August 2013 where they designed and simulated optical nanobeam resonators for on-chip, integrated quantum networks for applications in Quantum Information Processing and Secure Communications. Alex also collaborated with professor, post-doctoral scholars, and graduate students to optimize designs subject to fabrication constraints. Alex is also experienced in scripting in Scheme, Perl, and Linux Bash Shell. Additionally, they have interned as a software engineering intern at Vision Technologies from May 2011 to September 2012 and as a computational genetics research intern at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from June 2010 to August 2010.

Alex Hartz attended the McDonogh School for their secondary education. Alex then went on to study applied physics at the California Institute of Technology, where they earned their Bachelor of Science degree.
