We are seeking an energetic and skilled Project Engineer as we develop and execute a wide variety of projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate independence and initiative and be able to move tasks forward with oversight from our project managers.

Project Engineers at SCJ are energetic and skilled professionals who provide technical design on a variety of projects. Independence and initiative are critical as project engineers must move projects forward with minimal oversight. This position requires skills to facilitate project development and execution and coordinate effectively with stakeholders.

What you'll be doing

  • Working with the community. We’re looking for someone who can work with current and potential clients to make their projects a reality and the community a better place for all of us.

  • Creating civil engineering designs. You will prepare conceptual and final design concepts, complete construction documents using Civil 3D standards, provide oversight and direction to technical staff, prepare stormwater drainage reports, and ensure adherence to quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes.

  • Assisting Project Manager with project execution. Following guidance from the project manager, you will complete components of project designs, track your task budgets on a weekly basis, ensure deliverables are completed on time, and participate in project meetings with the Project Manager.

  • Managing the permitting process. Your attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders will be essential for the smooth progression of projects through various permitting phases. You will coordinate reviews with permitting authorities, negotiate and troubleshooting permitting requirements, and provide anticipated permitting timelines to the project manager.

  • Effectively communicate with coworkers and clients. Clear verbal and written communications will be an integral part of your work, including creating and delivering engaging, informative, and well-organized presentations.

  • Strengthening client relationships. To facilitate successful project completion, you will meet client expectations on budget and schedule and effectively communicate any challenges and options to the Project Manager to foster client loyalty and satisfaction.

  • Completing project documents. You’ll be responsible for the initiation and completion of any required documentation to support assigned projects, writing draft and final reports, developing draft reports in concert with other project team members, and reviewing deliverables prepared by the team prior to executive-level review and submission to clients.

  • Participating in business development. You will look for new work opportunities with existing and new clients, listen for and seek out new projects that may exist or are being formulated, identify add-on opportunities as they relate to specific projects, participate in proposal development for new projects, and participate in interviews and presentations as needed.

What you bring

  • A passion for serving others, communication, creativity, and a commitment to high-quality work.
  • A PE license and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience.
  • AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D experience.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • A healthy balance of logic and creativity.
