Alessandro Borella is an accomplished scientific officer at SCK-CEN, with extensive experience in research and development focused on Non-Destructive Assay techniques for safeguards, particularly in spent fuel measurements and the optimization of novel detection systems, utilizing advanced data analysis methods including artificial neural networks. Prior experience includes a postdoctoral role at the European Commission, where Borella advanced imaging techniques and developed hardware for neutron-related applications, as well as contributions to neutron resonance studies and Monte Carlo simulations during time spent at CEA and EC-JRC-IRMM. Borella holds a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from Politecnico di Milano and a PhD in Nuclear Physics from Ghent University, complemented by a background in project management in automation systems.
