Scot Mathieson has over three decades of experience in environmental conservation and policy, holding the position of Principal Conservation Policy Officer and Fish and Biodiversity Unit Manager at the Scottish Environment Protection Agency since July 1996. In this role, Scot leads the agency's efforts in nature conservation policy, overseeing critical initiatives such as the Scottish Biodiversity Strategy and various environmental assessments. Scot is also the lead contact for the Stirling City Region Deal, collaborating with local councils to achieve sustainable development goals. Previous roles include serving as a Board Trustee for Buglife and working as an Estuarine Ecologist at Scottish Natural Heritage, focusing on habitat and species conservation. Scot began the career at the Tweed River Purification Board as an Assistant Pollution Prevention Officer. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Estuarine Pollution Monitoring from the University of Stirling, a Master’s in Environmental Law from De Montfort University, and an Honours degree in Marine Biology from Heriot-Watt University.
