Michael Downs

Michael Downs has extensive experience in advocacy and environmental conservation, serving as an onshore volunteer and Direct Action Crew member for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society since March 2009, focusing on raising awareness and recruiting new members. Prior to this role, Michael worked as an asbestos remover for Local 17 heat and frost from 1990 to 1995, handling hazardous materials in various facilities in the Chicago area. Earlier military service in the US Navy from June 1980 to September 1984 involved expertise in deck seamanship and supervisory roles. Additionally, Michael has pursued a passion for photography and art since 1999. Educationally, Michael holds a high school diploma with a focus on history, art, music, and woodworking from Monticello High School, completed in 1977.
