Sealord Group Limited

Stuart joined Sealord in 2012 and has had a career across marketing, FMCG and alcohol brands with [Unilever](/org/unilever) and Lion as well as nine years running marketing and buying with retailer, The Warehouse. His role at Sealord is to lead the Marketing function for the Sealord Group, which includes innovation and internal communications. Additionally Stu is tasked with leading the sustainability strategy for Group.



Stuart Yorston

Jason Plato has been at Sealord for more than 20 years. Initially based in Nelson, Jason moved to Japan where he opened the Sealord office and ran Sealord’s North Asian business for six years. From there, Jason moved to the US where he was the General Manager of Sealord’s North American operations for seven years. Jason moved back to NZ in 2008 to take up the role of General Manager International Marketing and ran Sealord’s international sales and marketing network.

In 2013 Jason established Sealord’s Australian office and took on the role of  General Manager Consumer responsible for brand, Sealord’s sales into Australia and NZ, as well as Sealord’s Australian based aquaculture operations, Petuna Aquaculture and King Reef, of which he is a director of both.

Jason is now responsible for all group sales. He resides in Sydney sharing his time between New Zealand and Australia.

Jason Plato

Dawn moved into the General Manager - Human Resources role after seven years with Sealord as Human Resource Manager across different aspects of the business.  Dawn is accountable for all aspects of human resources for Sealord in New Zealand and Australia, with a significant role in the Sealord strategy of People.

With over 20 years’ experience in human resources, Dawn has worked in both union and non-unionised environments at Fisher and Paykel Healthcare, Villa Maria Estate, Carter Holt Harvey and the Royal Bank of Scotland. 

Dawn started her career with a Bachelor Degree in Mathematical Sciences and gained her Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the [University of Strathclyde](/org/university-of-strathclyde). She moved to New Zealand in 2005 from her homeland, Scotland.

Dawn Cooper

Mr Dewes, of Ngāti Porou and Ngati Rangitihi descent, has served in a number of seafood-related roles including the first 10 years on the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission. He is a former Director of Moana Pacific Fisheries and was Deputy Chair of Sealord from 1992 to 2008.  As well as being active in the affairs of his Iwi, Mr Dewes is also on the boards of [Contact Energy](/org/contact-energy-ltd), and the Treasury.   



Whaimutu Dewes

Rui Ventura is Sealord's General Manager of Fishing Operations.

His role has a significant part to play in Sealord's strategy of Operational Excellence through ensuring the effective utilisation of deep sea factory vessels, land-based processing plants and maximising the return from the company's allocated quota assets.

Rui joined Sealord with 20 years’ experience in the fishing industry, most recently as Senior Management Executive with the [Oceana Group](/org/oceana-group), the largest diversified fishing company in South Africa. His role there involved managing a factory as well as a fleet of seven vessels - comprising two freshers and five factory freezer trawlers, with a quota for 15,000 tonnes of hake.

 

 

Prior to that he was involved in a family fishing business, also in South Africa, specialising in sales and marketing to domestic and international markets, but also involved in business strategy, reapplication of fishing rights, vessel management and overseeing joint venture companies. 

His long-standing industry involvement includes serving on the Executive Committee of the South African Deep Sea Trawling Association, as well as the Industry/Government Marine Stewardship Council steering committee, and the Management Committee of FishSA, an umbrella seafood association of fishing rights holders in South Africa.  

Rui has a degree in Business Science from the University of Cape Town and is committed to the stewardship of the fishing industry as well as environmental sustainability.

Rui Ventura

In this role Doug leads Sealord Operations which is responsible for:

The catching and processing of fish caught in NZ, Australia and Indian Ocean Waters
The operations of King Reef Barramundi farm in Australia; and
Sealord interests in mussels, Westfleet, Petuna Deepsea Fishing and Australian Longline. 
Prior to Sealord Doug worked as CEO of Hubbard Foods Ltd until joining the Sealord in June 2011.  Hubbard Foods is a FMCG cereal manufacturer who primarily services grocery retailers in NZ and Australia.    Doug has also spent 13 years at Lion Nathan starting in their graduate programme in 1992.  During this time Doug spent seven years in the sales function and four years in marketing.  His roles during this time included Regional Sales Director for Auckland region and Brands Director.  

Doug also spent two years as part of the Lion Nathan strategic team where he led Lion’s entry to the Grocery channel in 1999.

Doug has a BCom/LLB from the [University of Otago](/org/university-of-otago), a Masters in Business Administration from Henley Management College in England and an Advanced Management Program from [Harvard University](/org/harvard).

 Doug’s whakapapa links him to Ngati Porou and Ngati Raukawa.

Doug Paulin

Gary has a 25 year career with extensive general and financial management experience across several industries and with multi-national corporations, public companies, private equity-owned companies and in start-up environments.

Previously Gary was the CFO of [Tegel Foods Limited](/org/tegel-foods-limited), New Zealand’s market leading fully integrated poultry producer. Prior to this he served as CFO at telecommunications company Woosh Wireless.

Gary Neill

Tim Silverstone is Sealord’s General Counsel and General Manager Corporate Affairs.  As part of his role, Tim is the senior legal adviser and company secretary to the Sealord Group.  Tim is also responsible for corporate affairs, government relations, risk and insurance.

Before joining Sealord in 2010, Tim was a lawyer at a number of major law firms, including [Russell McVeagh](/org/russell-mcveagh) in Auckland and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London.  Tim’s practice focused on corporate law, including mergers and acquisitions and securities law.

Tim Silverstone

Hinerangi Raumati-Tu’ua

Richard moved into the role of General Manager Supply Chain from his previous position as Sealord’s Sales and Operations (S&OP) Planning Manager.

The Supply Chain function involves overseeing the distribution and storage of products, procurement, customer service and demand/supply planning to ensure maximum returns from Sealord’s catch (S&OP).

Prior to Sealord, Richard’s experiences include 15 years with [Fonterra](/org/fonterra) across a broad range of functions but more recently as Manager for Supply Chain Excellence, and before that leading management roles at Esselte and the New Zealand Dairy Board.

Having started out his career with a Bachelor of Management Studies, his strengths include enabling cross-functional relationships, an ability to implement change, and structured approaches to planning and strategy development.

Being on the Senior Executive Team is a great opportunity to broaden the exposure and influence of Supply Chain across the business.

Richard North

Mark Clarkson Recently joined the Sealord Board following his retirement as Managing Director of [ANZCO Foods](/org/anzco-foods-ltd), a position he held for thirteen years.

 Mark has spent more than forty years in the New Zealand meat industry occupying many roles in international business as well as serving on a number of primary sector organisation boards.

 

Mark Clarkson

Maurice Eng is currently a Director of a number of companies, principally in the primary industries sector.

Prior to returning to New Zealand in 2005 Maurice was Area Director for Greater China for the H.J Heinz co, an American multinational. He held that position for six years, growing the business from one Joint Venture to four operations, manufacturing and selling product in China. He was also appointed Chairman for Heinz Japan.

Prior to that role Maurice held several positions in New Zealand with the Wattie Goodman group. This included Managing Director of Wattie Frozen Foods and Operations Director for Heinz- Watties.

Maurice Eng

Anthony is a Partner of Bancorp Merchant Bankers with 30 years of corporate advisory and M&A experience. He is the Chairman of General Capital Technologies and Omni Health, and is a director of a number of other companies including Moana New Zealand (the iwi fishing company which owns 50% of Sealord) and Vomo Island Resort Group amongst others.



Tony Hannon

Mr Hisami  Sakai graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor's degree in Food Chemistry.
He joined Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui) in 1981, and he worked for Sealord in Nelson from 2002 to 2004.
Mr Sakai has been an Executive Officer of Nissui since 2008. He is responsible for the overseas operations of Nissui as well as logistics and Nissuis ocean business.

Hisami Sakai

Hinerangi joined the Sealord Board in 2018. Her Iwi are Ngati Mutanga and Waikato and she brings significant governance and financial experience, with previous roles as Chief Financial Officer for Tainui Group Holdings Ltd and Executive Director Operations at Te Wananga o Aotearoa. Hinerangi is a Board member of Te Ohu Kaimoana and Moana NZ and chairs Parininihi ki Waitotara Incorporation (PKW). She is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand and a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
