Erik Gerding is a legal expert currently serving as Director of the SEC Division of Corporation Finance and previously held the role of Deputy Director for Legal and Regulatory Policy within the same division since October 2021. In academia, Gerding has been a Professor of Law at the University of Colorado School of Law and an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Colorado Boulder since August 2011 and July 2011, respectively, specializing in banking, securities, corporate governance, contracts, and commercial law. Prior to this, Gerding taught at the University of New Mexico from June 2006 to June 2011 and practiced law as an Associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP from 1998 to 2006, focusing on transactional and regulatory matters, particularly in securities offerings and M&A. Gerding earned a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Harvard Law School between 1995 and 1998.
