Mark Butler

Board Observer at Second Front Systems

Mark Butler is currently an observer on the board of Second Front Systems. Mark has nearly three decades of experience in the military, serving in various leadership positions.

Butler's most recent position was with the Marine Corps Cyberspace Command, where they served as chief of staff and deputy commander from 2011 to 2014. Prior to that, they were with Marine Corps Central Command, Forward HQ, as chief of staff from 2010 to 2011.

From 2008 to 2010, Butler was with the National Military Command Center as the assistant deputy director for operations. Mark then attended the USAF War College as a graduate student from 2007 to 2008.

Butler's first leadership position was as executive officer with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron from 2006 to 2007. Mark then became commanding officer of HQ Squadron / Marine Air Station Yuma, AZ in 2004, where they served until 2006. Following that, they became executive officer of Marine Attack Squadron 214 from 2002 to 2004.

Butler began their military career as a requirements officer for the Joint Strike Fighter with HQ, USMC in 1999. Mark then became an operational test pilot for AV-8B with Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9) in 1996, where they served until 1999.

Mark Butler attended the United States Naval Academy, where they earned a bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering. Mark then went on to earn an MBA and MS in Technology Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Finally, they earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the USAF War College.
