Michael Callihoo

Michael Callihoo has a strong background in the legal field, particularly in the energy industry. Michael started their career at Bennett Jones LLP, where they worked as an articling student, associate, and eventually became a partner. At Bennett Jones, their practice focused on all commercial aspects of the upstream and midstream petroleum industries in Canada. Michael dealt with acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and commercial agreements related to conventional and unconventional exploration and production, pipeline systems, storage and processing facilities, and the development of petroleum assets.

In 2010, Callihoo joined Plains Midstream Canada as its first in-house lawyer in Calgary. Initially focused on acquisitions and a limited range of contracts, their role expanded to encompass all areas of the business. Michael managed acquisitions and divestitures worth billions of dollars, major construction projects, and implemented internal procedures and policies to mitigate risk and increase efficiency. Callihoo also handled litigation and dispute resolution, corporate re-organizations, and provided legal support in areas such as HR, labour, credit, cross-border structuring, trade compliance, crude-by-rail, trucking, privacy, and health and safety.

In 2018, Callihoo joined Secure Energy Services Inc. as the Vice President, Legal - Midstream Infrastructure.

Michael Callihoo attended the University of Alberta from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained an LLB degree in Law.
