Diane Kue

Diane Kue knew she wanted to be a teacher at a young age. This gave her a different perspective as a student. Growing up, she learned so she could teach. As a daughter of a refugee, she observed the importance of culture and language on learning and agency as a student and later applied this understanding as an educator. Her last two years as a classroom teacher were focused on students new to the country, culture, and English language and those with stagnant language development.

Diane taught for ten years before transitioning to curriculum writer and instructional support. Her specialized focus was implementing linguistic support within the curriculum and supporting teachers of all grade levels and content with ways to embed academic language within instruction. She also coordinated special programs for teachers of English Learners and/or Emergent Bilinguals and was a principal over summer school programs for students new to the country.

She holds a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas Woman’s University and taught kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grade. She earned her Master’s in Educational Leadership from the University of North Texas. Diane is the author of Solved: A Teacher’s Guide to Making Word Problems Comprehensible and a contributing author to Teaching Math to English Learners. She has presented for campuses, districts, ESC regions, TexTELPAS, and NCTM. Diane currently resides in Houston, Texas.
