Eyasu Shumie

Organizer at SEIU Local 1

Eyasu Shumie is an experienced organizer with a focus on building worker power and addressing workplace issues. Currently serving as an Organizer with SEIU Local 1 since April 2022, Eyasu works collaboratively with workers to enhance their influence in the workplace. Prior experience includes the role of Food Supply Chain Organizer at Warehouse Workers for Justice, where Eyasu supported low-wage workers in the food warehousing sector in organizing against unsafe conditions and discrimination. Eyasu has also contributed to Haverford College in various capacities, such as Writing Center Tutor and Media Production Mentor. Additional organizing experience was gained as an AFSCME Union Scholar at Harvard Law School, collaborating with Nevada state employees to strengthen their collective power. Educational background includes a double major in English and Growth and Structure of Cities from Haverford College, completed in 2021.
