Christopher McClain has worked in the software engineering industry since 1997. Christopher began their career as a Tax Reviewer at the Internal Revenue Service in 1997. In 1999, they worked as a Teaching Instructor at the University of New Hampshire and a Software Engineer at Enterasys Networks. At Enterasys, they developed software for several layers of the application architecture, including client GUI, development of client/server middle-ware, and server side business logic using Java and JavaScript. In 2013, they moved to Extreme Networks as a Senior Software Engineer and developed a cloud-based management application for wireless access points using Angular1, Bootstrap, Flot charts, and OpenLayers maps. Christopher also developed a thin client network management application using a combination of EXT JS, DWR, and Java. In 2016, they joined Senet as a Senior Software Engineer, a Low-Power Wide-Area Network (LPWAN) provider for IoT applications.

Christopher McClain attended the University of New Hampshire from 1985 to 1989, where they earned a BA in Political Science. Christopher then attended the Vermont Law and Graduate School from 1989 to 1992, where they earned a JD in Law. From 1996 to 1997, they attended the University of Massachusetts Lowell and earned a Certificate in Unix. Finally, from 1998 to 2000, they attended the University of New Hampshire again for post-graduate study in Computer Science.
