Zac Atkinson

Senior Director of Hardware & Compliance at Serious Labs

Zac Atkinson has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Zac began their career at R.F. Gartner Industries Inc., where they worked in drafting and design. Zac then joined MetalBoss Technologies Inc., where they progressed through different positions, including project coordinator, project manager, construction manager, operations manager, and head of design and projects. In these roles, they strengthened teams, implemented business strategies, and managed large-scale projects.

Zac also worked at CADD Alta Drafting and Design Inc., where they served as the head of design and drafting. During their time there, they improved operational performance and led the development of design services.

Zac further expanded their expertise as a teaching assistant at the Illinois Institute of Technology and as a contract academic staff member at the University of Alberta.

Zac also had a role as an affiliate at Panorama Innovation, LLC, where they helped companies create innovative products and services through a deeper understanding of people and the future.

Their most recent position was at Serious Labs Inc., where they held various leadership roles. As the senior director of hardware and compliance, they oversaw a team that developed technologies for virtual reality training simulators. Zac established membership positions to develop standards in collaboration with the Standards Council of Canada and secured funding for VR simulation technology. In their previous role as the director of hardware and compliance, Zac led the design and certification process for a universal motion platform for a forklift VR simulator. Zac also served as the hardware manager, successfully delivering demo simulators and achieving certifications for VR simulators.

Throughout their career, Zac has demonstrated strong leadership, project management, and design skills, contributing to the success of the organizations they have worked with.

Zac Atkinson has a Bachelor of Design degree in Industrial Design from the University of Alberta, which they completed in 2000. Zac then pursued a Master Certificate in Project Management from the Schulich School of Business at York University, which they completed in 2008. Lastly, they obtained a Master of Design Methods degree from the Institute of Design (ID) in 2016.
