Karen Backus

Karen Backus is an experienced communications professional with a diverse background in healthcare advocacy and policy. Since October 2000, Karen has been with SEIU, serving in roles such as Senior Communications Program Manager, Communications Coordinator, Director of the Nurse Alliance of Illinois, and Health Policy Specialist. Prior to this, from June 1997 to September 2000, Karen held the position of Director of Practice and Economic & General Welfare at the Missouri Nurses Association. Karen earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Missouri-Columbia between 1990 and 1995.
