Mary Kathryn Kane-Neilson, MPH, CT (ASCP) has diverse work experience in the field of healthcare and regulatory compliance. Mary Kathryn started their career as a Cytotechnologist at MD Anderson Cancer Center in 2012, where they gained expertise in screening and processing specimens, validating ancillary testing platforms, and contributing to research projects. In 2017, they joined St. Joseph Medical Center as a Technical Supervisor, overseeing Cytology services and tangential billing for the Histology Lab. During their time there, they also performed immediate assessment of biopsy tissue and published and edited Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Since 2019, Mary has been working at Sharps Medical Waste Services as a Clinical Specialist in Regulatory Compliance. In this role, they serve as a subject matter expert on various regulatory standards related to biohazard, pharmaceutical, hazardous, and universal waste regulations. Mary Kathryn provides environmental health and safety expertise, informs company policies, ensures operational safety, contributes to product development, and assists with large proposals.

Mary Kathryn Kane-Neilson, MPH, CT (ASCP) holds a Masters of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from Texas A&M University. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biology Technician/Biotechnology Laboratory Technician from the University of Texas at MD Anderson Cancer Center. In addition to their formal education, they have obtained several certifications including Certified Environmental Trainer - Management & Transportation of Hazardous Materials & Waste (CET) and Certified Environmental Trainer - Occupational Safety & Health (CET) from 360training. Mary Kathryn is also certified as a Clinical Laboratory Cytotechnologist and Cytotechnologist by the AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CLINICAL PATHOLOGY.
