Joseph N. Mwangi

Joseph N. Mwangi, M.Ed, Ph.D has a diverse background in scientific research and education. Joseph is currently working at Shattuck Labs as a Scientist III Analytical Development in the lead Mass Spectrometry role. Prior to this, they held a similar position at Biogen as a Scientist in Protein Analytical Chemistry.

Before entering the industry, Joseph gained extensive research experience. Joseph worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, where they focused on the development and application of novel mass spectrometry imaging methods. Their research involved assessing the efficacy and distribution of antiretrovirals in various tissue reservoirs and using hair as a non-invasive biomatrix for detecting and quantifying HIV medication.

Joseph also has teaching experience, having served as an Adjunct Chemistry Faculty at High Point University. In this role, they prepared lectures, labs, and assessments for chemistry courses, mentored teaching assistants, and provided individual attention to students during review sessions. Joseph also participated in the implementation of standardized curriculum.

During their graduate studies, Joseph worked as a Graduate Assistant at the Triad Mass Spectrometry Facility, where they developed LC-MS/MS methods and analyzed samples from different research groups. Joseph also communicated with clients regarding the results. Joseph's passion for science education led him to participate in the GK-12 program, where they partnered with local K-12 science teachers to enhance STEM learning and career interests in students. Additionally, they worked as a curriculum developer for Education 2020 and Words and Numbers Inc., and as a science teacher trainer for SMASSE (Strengthening Mathematics and Science in Secondary Schools).

Joseph N. Mwangi, M.Ed, Ph.D, completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Science with a focus on Secondary Education and Teaching from Moi University in 1999-2003. Joseph then pursued a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Leadership and Administration at Kenyatta University from 2005-2008. Continuing their educational journey, Joseph earned a Ph.D in Medicinal Biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro between 2013-2018.
