Chief Executive at Sheffield Theatres

Tom Bird has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Tom is currently working as the Chief Executive at Sheffield Theatres since February 2023. Prior to that, they served as the Advisory Board Member in the Department of Theatre, Film, and Interactive Media at the University of York from March 2018 to February 2023. From December 2017 to February 2023, they held the position of Chief Executive at York Theatre Royal.

Tom Bird had a significant tenure at Shakespeare's Globe, where they worked in various roles from 2007 to 2017. Tom served as the Executive Producer from August 2012 to October 2017. Additionally, they held the positions of Director for the Globe to Globe Festival from October 2010 to August 2012, Music Manager from December 2008 to October 2010, and Theatre and Music Assistant from January 2007 to December 2008.

Tom also has experience as a Visitor Assistant at The Scotch Whisky Experience from August 2006 to January 2007 and as an English Teacher at Enjoy English, S.L. for a brief period in June and July 2006.

Tom Bird started their career as a Marketing Assistant at Aurora Nova Productions during the Edinburgh Festival from July to September 2005.

Furthermore, they worked as a Front of House Assistant at The University of Edinburgh in August 2004. Prior to that, they had a student job as a Waiter on the Orient Express Northern Belle from October to December 2003, serving on the Edinburgh to Oban route.

Their earliest work experience was as a Customer Service Assistant at Rutherfords of Morpeth from August 1998 to April 2002.

Tom Bird studied English Literature at The University of Edinburgh from 2002 to 2006, earning their MA degree. In 2004-2005, they also participated as an Erasmus MA student at Københavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen, focusing on English Language and Literature/Letters.
