Assistant Director Of Deijb (diversity, Equity, Inclusion And Belonging) at Sheridan School

Rickey Hill has a diverse work experience, starting as a Middle Grades Social Studies Teacher in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools from 2012 to 2014. During this time, they exceeded growth on the Social Studies North Carolina Final Exam and implemented data-driven instruction for literacy strategies.

From 2014 to 2016, Rickey worked as a Middle Grades Social Studies Teacher at Cabarrus County Schools, where they created and implemented Common Core and NCESS aligned lessons for a diverse group of students. Rickey also served as a teacher leader to lead conversations about culturally relevant literacy instruction and collaborated on implementing best literacy practices district-wide.

In 2016, Rickey returned to Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a Middle Grades Social Studies Teacher and also took on the role of AVID Site Coordinator from 2019 to 2021. As the AVID Site Coordinator, Rickey documented and oversaw the collection of data for college and career readiness, served as a liaison between the school and district for AVID initiatives, and led professional development on instructional practices and culturally relevant teaching.

From 2018 to the present, Rickey has been working as a Staff Developer at AVID Center, where they have led professional development training sessions nationwide and served as a resource for teachers and administrators on culturally relevant teaching and student achievement strategies.

Most recently, Rickey joined Sheridan School in 2021 as the Assistant Director of DEIJB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), where they support the delivery of DEIJB programming, collaborates with the admissions team, and develops educational workshops and professional development experiences for faculty and staff. Rickey also worked as the DEIJB Coordinator at Sheridan School from 2022 to 2023, where they collected and analyzed diversity metrics, crafted a DEIJB mission statement, and provided support for culturally relevant teaching.

Rickey Hill's education history begins in 2006 when they attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Rickey obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with minors in Africana Studies and History in 2010. Later, from 2010 to 2012, they pursued a Graduate Certificate in Teaching at the same university, focusing on Secondary Education with a specialization in History and Social Studies.

In 2016, Rickey enrolled at Queens University of Charlotte and completed their Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in K-12 Literacy in 2018. Throughout their educational journey, they obtained several additional certifications, including Middle Grades Social Studies 6-9, Reading K-12, and Secondary Social Studies 9-12. These certifications were granted by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, although the specific years of attainment are not provided.
