Rowan McKay has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. They started their career as a Student Researcher at NIST in 2010 and 2011, where they worked on projects related to ultrasonic calorimetry and spin-1 Kagome Lattice synthesis and characterization. They continued their academic research as a Student Researcher at the University of Albany in 2011 and 2012, focusing on creating and coding robotic arms for efficient measurement.
In 2012 and 2013, Rowan worked as a Simulation Development and Data Analysis subcontractor at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, where they utilized MATLAB for simulations, managed data, and wrote analysis scripts.
From 2014 to 2016, Rowan worked as a Barista at Starbucks before transitioning to a Computer Technician role at Computer Care & Learning in 2017. They were responsible for providing computer support and troubleshooting.
In the same year, Rowan joined Shorelight as a Desktop Support Specialist, where they supported over 800 users internationally, administered central systems, and assessed IT needs. They then advanced to the role of Application Support Engineer in 2019, where they created a PowerShell module with extensive documentation and implemented and maintained Ivanti Service Desk.
Currently, Rowan holds the position of Senior Application Support Engineer at Shorelight, starting in 2021. Their responsibilities in this role are not detailed beyond the job title and start date.
Rowan McKay earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physics/Mathematics from the University at Albany, SUNY, where they studied from 2008 to 2012. Additionally, Rowan obtained certifications as an Okta Certified Professional from Okta, Inc. in April 2021, and as a CompTIA A+ ce from CompTIA in September 2016.
