Hiranya Jayathilaka

Hiranya Jayathilaka has a strong background in software engineering with experience in various roles and companies. Hiranya is currently working as a Software Engineer at Shortwave since January 2022. Previously, they worked at Google as a Software Engineer from February 2017 to January 2022. Hiranya also had internships at Google in 2015 and 2014 as a Software Engineering Intern.

Before joining Google, Hiranya was a PhD Candidate and Research Assistant at UC Santa Barbara from September 2012 to December 2016, where they conducted distributed systems research. Hiranya also contributed to the open-source community as a Committer/PMC Member for Apache Synapse at The Apache Software Foundation, starting in May 2008. Hiranya also made contributions to Apache Xerces2/J and Apache Web Services.

In terms of roles at WSO2, Hiranya worked as a Senior Technical Lead from April 2012 to August 2012, an Associate Technical Lead from April 2011 to April 2012, a Senior Software Engineer from January 2010 to April 2011, and a Software Engineer from April 2009 to January 2010. Hiranya started their professional journey as a Trainee Software Engineer at WSO2 Inc., completing a 6-month internship as part of their B.Sc. degree from October 2007 to April 2008.

Hiranya Jayathilaka obtained a B.Sc. Engineering (Hons) degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Moratuwa between 2005 and 2009. Following this, between the years 2012 and 2016, they attended UC Santa Barbara and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Computer Science.
