Web Developer at Showbie

Jeff Nelson is a web developer who currently works at Showbie. Jeff has previous experience working as a front-end developer at Lift Interactive from September 2015 to October 2017. At Showbie, they have developed UI for features on the flagship Ember apps (Showbie, Showbie Admin) and the React-based Socrative app teams. Jeff has also rebuilt the voice-note recorder UI, including a new VU meter using the Web Audio API. In addition, they have created initial design system infrastructure, including cross-platform design tokens and documentation, Storybook component examples, and a CLI tool for producing SVG icon components. Jeff has proposed and led the adoption of Tailwind CSS across all front-end teams, as well as discussions on best front-end practices, state management, etc. Jeff has also maintained and supported marketing websites; template development and content updates. Jeff provided static site generation solution in order to dramatically reduce monthly hosting costs. Jeff has implemented new design system components and front-end features as part of refactoring the Socrative app’s React codebase to TypeScript. Jeff also pushed for and was part of efforts to modularise the app into a “monorepo” architecture. Jeff is also part of an internal team raising awareness and focus on accessibility issues.

Jeff Nelson has a certificate in multimedia from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). Jeff is also an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop.

They work with Robin Payne - Software Developer, Eli Dupuis - Lead Web Developer, and Curtis Yallop - Senior Back End Developer. Jeff Nelson reports to Kenny Dickie, Director of Software Development.
