Job description

The Shop Technician is responsible for the setup, assembly, fabrication, diagnostics, and commissioning of new and used equipment in the SIGMA Equipment inventory. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, self starter, who enjoys working with mechanical and electrical systems in a team oriented, shop environment.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Observes functioning of equipment to detect hazards, problems, and the need for service, repair, and/or replacement of electrical, electronic components and mechanical components

  • Basic understanding of electronic and electrical schematics; draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units

  • Ability to disassemble machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs

  • Examine machinery parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear

  • Re-assemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs

  • Clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery

  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, or information obtained from observation to diagnose equipment problems

  • Record repairs and maintenance performed in the central database

  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of AC and DC electrical systems

  • Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems

  • Intermediate skill level with Mechanical aptitude/ability

  • Basic level of electrical aptitude / ability

  • Experience with pneumatics and electricity

  • Experience working in an industrial environment

  • Associates degree in electronics technology or equivalent certification.

  • Basic working knowledge of Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s/controls/protocols platforms is desired.

    • Must possess a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Valid driver’s license

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than one hundred pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
