Tomi Poutanen

Tomi Poutanen is the Chief Executive Officer at Signal 1. Tomi was previously the Chief AI Officer at TD from January 2018 to April 2022. There, they led different AI/ML initiatives across the organization, including the deployment of innovative ML solutions, automation of AI/ML pipeline, infrastructure management and AI governance. Prior to that, they were at Vector Institute, Layer 6 AI, Creative Destruction Lab, and Milq Inc. where they were the Co-Founder & CTO. Tomi also worked at Microsoft as a Principal Software Engineer from October 2010 to August 2012. There, they Rewrote the Machine Learning engine that ranks Bing results, resulting in a 4x speedup in performance and enabling the deployment of much more advanced ML models. Tomi was also responsible for the only assembly language methods in the Bing stack. Before Microsoft, they were the Founder of High Performance Search Algorithms from July 2007 to February 2009.

Tomi Poutanen has a MBA from the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management, a MASC in Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a BASC in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
