Job Summary/Purpose
This position is responsible for leading shifts of up to (2) other custodians in maintaining the highest standards of facility cleanliness for patrons, staff, and artists of Significant Productions across its multiple venues and support facilities. The Lead Housekeeper assesses the work to be completed during a shift by reviewing provided work orders, checklists, standards, and other documentation and assigns and performs specific duties and priorities to ensure that all tasks are completed to standard and on time.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, Management reserves the right to revise the job or to require that other or different functions to be performed when circumstances change or exigencies require:
- Walk and clean venues and support facilities: sweep/vacuum/mop/spot-treat floors, dust/sanitize/polish furniture and other surfaces, remove trash to dumpsters and clean and reline trashcans, clean windows and mirrors, clean and sanitize toilets, showers, sinks, and other bathroom surfaces, restock paper and soap dispensers and supplies, assist in processing house laundry including towels and tablecloths.
- On show days, ensure that patron-facing areas remain clean and ready for patrons to use and enjoy throughout the night, including touching up restrooms, removing trash and relining trashcans, etc. Touch-up backstage areas as requested by production/stage management.
- Assist with set up for special events, including moving and staging of furniture, equipment, signage, décor, etc.
- May operate department-specific equipment including carpet cleaner, vacuum, water extractor, floor scrubber/buffer, etc.
- Understand venue and company standard operating procedures surrounding cleanliness standards for front of house, storage, and backstage areas. Assist in keeping stock of consumable inventory and request supply replenishment as needed.
- Promote and provide extraordinary guest service for both internal and external guests; answer questions and offer information in a courteous manner. Seek to assist artists and patrons where appropriate.
- Understand and demonstrate the proper use of safety practices, including use of proper PPE, knowledge of hazardous materials/BBP, and ensure standards are maintained, safety policies upheld, and concerns escalated to management.
- Report facility maintenance concerns according to company procedures and assist in minor facilities remedies, such as paint touch-ups, simple hardware replacements, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This position will lead shifts of up to (2) other custodians, assigning specific duties and priorities to ensure all needed work is completed to standard and on time.
- This position will not be responsible for performance management of those custodians outside of a per-shift basis.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Six or more months of shift leadership experience preferred.
- Ability to work nights and on weekends as needed to support venue show schedules.
- Prompt and regular attendance is a requirement of this position.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact with supervisors, peers, and internal and external clients effectively in English.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a Microsoft 365 ecosystem (Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.), via phone, and two-way radio.
- Ability to foster a safe, humane, collaborative, organized, respectful, and energized work environment with a positive attitude and a sense of humor.
- Work with intermediate mathematical concepts (mixing cleaning solvent, concentrates, solutions, etc.)
Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands
- A broad range of physical movement, including prolonged sitting, standing, climbing ladders, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
- Grasping and gripping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in operating equipment, using tools, and the like
- Working on up to an eight-foot ladder to access hard-to-reach spaces for dusting, etc.
- Near and far vision in reading instructions and operating equipment
- Lifting, dragging, and/or pushing materials weighing up to 40 pounds using appropriate tools
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is moderately exposed to moving mechanical parts and hazards. There is a moderate level of noise in the work environment. There are instances when the employee experiences wet or humid conditions, works in high places, experiences fumes – mists-gases and chemical hazards, runs a risk of electrical shock, vibration and burn hazards. The employee will be exposed to theatrical haze, fog, and strobe effects.
