Andrew W. Schwartz is Of Counsel to the Firm’s Product Liability, Litigation, Health Care and Banking Law Practice Groups. He joined the Firm in 1998 after spending six years in the litigation department of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in New York City. He has extensive experience in a variety of areas, including concentration in the areas of product liability litigation and litigation involving health care regulatory agencies.
He has handled product liability matters involving a variety of products, including medical devices (latex gloves, syringes, scalpels), consumer products (automobiles, keyboards), pharmaceuticals (Ketek DES, antacids), asbestos, chemicals (benzene), narcotics test kits and electromagnetic fields. He was a member of the national counsel team defending two manufacturers in the latex glove product liability litigation. He was involved in the trial of several latex glove cases and was also responsible for administering the daily handling of over 300 cases, fact and expert depositions and distributor issues. He has been involved in the arguing and briefing in cases involving the indemnity claims of a latex glove distributor. See Owens & Minor, Inc. v. Mr. Schwartz has represented several hospitals and clinics, including blood and semen banks, in regulatory appeals and administrative hearings regarding licensure and quality of care issues.
He has also handled litigation matters in the areas of bankruptcy, antitrust, securities and banking, environmental law, corporate takeovers, partnership disputes, and ERISA. He is a member of the Firm’s Technology Committee.
