Susanna Pirttikangas

Susanna Pirttikangas has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Susanna is currently working as a Research Director at the University of Oulu, leading the Interactive Edge research group. Their research focuses on adaptive, reliable, and trusted edge computing. Susanna has also served as an Adjunct Professor and Senior Research Fellow at the university, leading various projects funded by organizations like Business Finland and the European Union.

In addition to their work at the University of Oulu, Pirttikangas has held roles at other institutions and organizations. Susanna worked as a Lead AI Scientist at Silo.AI and served as the Chair of the Board at Tausta Oy. Susanna was also a member of Finland's AI program's Data and Platform Economy working group at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

Pirttikangas has contributed to research internationally as well. Susanna worked as a Visiting Scholar at Tsinghua University and Tokyo Denki University, where they collaborated on projects related to green technology and context recognition, respectively. Susanna also spent time as a Visiting Scholar at Waseda University, conducting research on reliable context recognition.

Their journey in academia began as a Doctoral Student at the Infotech Oulu Graduate School and later progressed to roles such as Research Scientist and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oulu.

Throughout their career, Pirttikangas has demonstrated expertise in areas such as edge computing, AI, and data and platform economy. Susanna has also contributed to numerous research projects and collaborated with prestigious institutions across the globe.

Susanna Pirttikangas has a strong educational background in the fields of embedded systems, intelligent systems, and mathematics. From 1992 to 1998, they attended the University of Oulu and obtained their M.Sc. (math) degree in Mathematics, Statistics, and Information Processing. Later, they pursued their academic career at the same university and completed their D.Sc. (tech.) degree in Embedded Systems and Intelligent Systems from 1999 to 2004.
