Melanie Brown has a diverse work experience spanning different industries and roles. Melanie currently works at Simon Fraser University as the Director, Senior Leadership Support, Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic. In this role, they support the Senior Advisors to the Provost on the development of the SFU Medical School and coordinates the Business Case for submission to the Government of British Columbia Ministries of Health and Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
Prior to their current position, Melanie worked as the Director, Office of the Associate Vice-President, Academic at Simon Fraser University. Melanie collaborated with the AVPA senior management team to provide administrative leadership, resolve issues affecting faculty, staff, and students, and assist with the development and execution of projects and strategic initiatives.
Before joining Simon Fraser University, Melanie held various roles at Mensour Agency Ltd, where they worked as a Talent Agent & Manager, managing talent contracting within artist unions and representing professional artists for stage and screen.
Melanie also has experience as a Freelance Artist, working as an actor, producer, dramaturg, and playwright for various professional productions across Canada in theater/film. Additionally, they worked as an Administrator/Booking Agent at Partick Artists, an Interim Festival Director at Ottawa Fringe Festival, a Survey Project Supervisor/Ad Sales at Ottawa Fringe Festival, and a Media Relations personnel at the University of Ottawa Theater Department.
Melanie's early career includes roles as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Ottawa, a Marketing Assistant at Vancouver Chamber Choir, and an on-call and placement Nanny at Nannies on Call.
Throughout their professional journey, Melanie has gained skills in leadership, strategic planning, project management, talent management, and customer service, among others.
Melanie Brown completed their Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre/Theater from the University of Victoria from 2004 to 2008. Melanie then pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theatre Theory & Dramaturgy from the University of Ottawa from 2010 to 2013.
