CEO/President, Lead Server Team at Simple Machines Forum

Liroy van Hoewijk began their career in 2003 as the Founder of Provided, a company located in the heart of Silicon Valley and the Netherlands that specialized in network services, IT-Security, shared hosting, dedicated/managed (virtual) servers, Cloud Design/Solutions, Advanced Server Architecture and VoIP services. In 2010, they completed an internship at the IT team of an innovative software company and specific market leader in (mobile) computer software in their hometown. Theirprimary activities included network maintenance, tests for load balancing, TeamViewer Business customisation and deployment, and implementing IPv6 support for FireBird.

In 2011, Liroy van Hoewijk worked with WhatsApp Inc. as a Security Advisor Android + Symbian. Liroy worked on hacking the phone number verification/authentication measures, which eventually allowed him to remotely hijack any WhatsApp account by exploiting a sophisticated and unnoticed flaw in the verification method.

In 2016, they completed an internship at Het Nieuwe Kader, a filmstudio, where their main assignment was to find and implement a solution for multi-tenant, ACL-controlled, realtime and simultaneous collaboration on film-projects using centralised network storage.

In 2009, Liroy van Hoewijk joined Simple Machines as part of the Board of Directors, Manager of the Server Team (lead), and as of 2013 they became the CEO/President of this all-volunteer non-profit organisation. Simple Machines is a non-profit industry leader on free open-source community software and home of the highly popular Simple Machines Forum (SMF) project.

In 2019, Liroy van Hoewijk joined musketeers.group as a Cyber Security Specialist.

Liroy van Hoewijk obtained a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security & Cloud, System and Network Engineering from HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht (Hogeschool Utrecht).
