About the Role

Simplehuman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the full cycle development of our entire product line, from new product development to the improvement of existing products.   Responsibilities include mechanical CAD design, prototyping, testing, sample validation, and supporting the product through manufacturing and production.  For existing products, s/he will help to improve functionality, cost, or reliability.

This is an ideal role for someone interested in gaining hands-on work experience in consumer and consumer electronic product development.  This position sits in our Torrance, CA office.  This is NOT a remote position. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical design and development for both NPI and sustaining engineering
  • Identify critical function areas and ensure proper documentation for efficient debug
  • Review designs for manufacturability – ease of assembly, part mold ability, cosmetic risks, etc
  • Build prototypes and conduct DOEs -- Test, measure and validate prototypes and sample builds
  • Review first article parts and assemblies while finding solutions to problems
  • Work with the engineering team and the manufacturing facility to ensure product readiness for manufacturing
  • Work with Product Leads to help resolve issues in product development
  • Maintain mechanical CAD database

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 1-3 years of experience; Familiarity withconsumer or consumer electronics products is a plus

  • Fluency in CAD software is a must. Expertise in Creo preferred; must be functional in Solidworks

  • Some Robotics or Mechatronics background or coursework is a plus

  • Knowledge of manufacturing technologies such as plastic injection molding, die casting, plastic and metal extrusion, and metal stamping is a plus

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation and organized project management

  • Strong sense of drive and ownership to move projects forward

  • Clear verbal and written communications

  • Eager to learn; willing to pitch in wherever needed
