Brian Burnight

Director of Elementary Education at Sioux City Community School District

Brian Burnight is currently the Director of Elementary Education at Sioux City Community School District. Prior to this, they served as the Principal at Timber Point Elementary from July 2005 to June 2012. While at Timber Point Elementary, Brian was responsible for implementing extended day kindergarten, training and implementing "Professional Learning Communities at Work" school wide, training in "Six Traits of Writing", and training and implementing "Standards Aligned Instruction and Learning". Brian was also responsible for training and implementing k-5 "Board Math and Language". Under their leadership, the school won the California Distinguished School award in 2012 and they were awarded the 2010 BUSD Region 6 ACSA Administrator of the Year. In addition, they served as a Principal Mentor for ACSA in 2012.

Brian Burnight has a Doctor of Education Leadership from the University of South Dakota, a Specialist in Educational Administration degree from the University of South Dakota, and an Administrative Credential from National University. Brian also has a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational/Instructional Technology from Azusa Pacific University and a BA in Biology & Education Credential from South Dakota State University.
