Martin Cunningham

Martin Cunningham has a diverse work experience in the field of health, safety, and wellbeing. Martin currently works at Sir Robert McAlpine as the Head of Health Safety & Wellbeing - Group Services. In this role, they directly support the HS&W Director in developing and implementing strategy objectives and continuous improvement. Martin also supports the wider HS&W function and acts as a deputy for the HS&W Director when needed.

Before joining Sir Robert McAlpine, Martin worked at PJ Hegarty & Sons as a Senior HSE Advisor, primarily based on the HS2 project. Martin worked with the senior leadership team to improve working practices, develop strategies, and ensure safe systems of work.

Prior to that, Martin worked at Carey Group plc as a Regional HSE Advisor and later as a Compliance Training Manager. In these roles, they partnered with project teams to support project delivery and provided training support to employees and subcontractors.

Martin also gained experience at Skanska as a Senior H&S Advisor on a seconded role. Martin assisted the project team in the safe delivery of works on the Battersea Power Station development.

Martin started their career at Carey Group plc as a Groundworker and later progressed to roles such as Assistant Setting Out Engineer and Trainee HSEQT Advisor, where they assisted in the planning and development of safe systems of work.

Overall, Martin Cunningham has a strong background in health, safety, and wellbeing, with experience in strategy development, project support, and training coordination.

Martin Cunningham attended Hertford Regional College from 2006 to 2008, where they obtained a National Diploma in Public Services. In 2013, they briefly studied at International Workplace and earned a NEBOSH National General Certificate.
