People and Culture Manager at Skender

Colleen O'Brien has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and responsibilities. Colleen started their career as a Promotions and Marketing Intern at Emmis Communications from November 2010 to April 2011.

In 2013, Colleen joined Skender as a Project Coordinator. In this role, they managed the administration, documentation, and organization of one of Skender's operations teams. Colleen excelled in client management, project documentation, preconstruction, bidding, vendor management, and production fundamentals. Colleen held this position until May 2016.

From May 2016 to July 2019, Colleen worked as a Training and Culture Specialist at Skender. Colleen coordinated and presented training programs, mentored new employees during onboarding, and designed custom workshops on team dynamics and high-performing teams.

Colleen then moved on to become a People and Culture Specialist for Skender Manufacturing, a modular subsidiary of Skender Construction. In this role, they acted as a human resource and cultural liaison between the two companies. Colleen was responsible for talent recruitment, employee onboarding, benefits administration, union relationship support, and compliance with employment regulations. Colleen held this position from July 2019 to January 2021.

Following that, Colleen transitioned into the role of a People and Culture Generalist at Skender from January 2021 to July 2022. Colleen administered HR plans and procedures, assisted in policy development, and provided guidance on policy interpretation aligned with company objectives.

Currently, Colleen serves as a People and Culture Manager at Skender. Colleen provides HR thought leadership, influences company growth from within, and oversees the implementation of HR policies, programs, and services. Colleen'sresponsibilities include recruitment, employee retention, legal compliance, employee benefits, employee relations, employment practices, and employee communications.

Colleen O'Brien completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Communication, General from the University of Illinois Chicago from 2008 to 2012. During the same period, they also obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Psychology from the same institution. In terms of additional certifications, Colleen became a SHRM-Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) in January 2021 through SHRM, and they obtained their MBTI Certified Practitioner certification from The Myers-Briggs Company in March 2017.
