Dean Cornelison CFE, PI, CIFA, CIFI

Dean Cornelison has over 30 years of experience in claims, special investigation units (SIU), data analytics, and law enforcement. Currently, Dean works as a Senior Product OSINT Analyst and Solutions Architect at Skopenow, where they utilize their technical expertise to identify, investigate, and analyze open-source data related to fraud exposures. Their responsibilities include conducting research, analysis, and reporting on high-exposure and complex cases using investigation platforms.

Prior to Skopenow, Dean worked at Allstate as an Adjusting SIU Investigator and Senior Consultant. During their time there, they assisted the SIU Analytics Program Manager in managing the evolution of the SIU data analytics process. Dean conducted data research projects and provided analysis with written reports for complex case investigations.

Before Allstate, Dean was employed at Esurance, where they held multiple roles. As a Senior Regional SIU Fraud Analyst, they were responsible for the SIU Analytics Program in nine Western states, managing all aspects of the data analytics process. Dean completed data research projects involving analysis of data and multimedia reporting for complex case investigations. Dean also conducted predictive and proactive data queries/research to identify potential suspicious activity.

Furthermore, at Esurance, Dean served as a National Supervising Investigator, conducting investigations primarily focused on underwriting issues, agency issues, identity theft, and financial fraud. Dean collaborated with various business partners in Claims, Product Management, Underwriting, Sales, Finance, and Information Technologies, providing training and expertise. Additionally, Dean worked as a Senior SIU Investigator, handling regional investigations of suspicious auto claims and analyzing NICB Alerts, VIN, and provider/suspect searches to uncover previously unidentified fraud exposures.

Dean's prior work experience includes serving as a Highway Patrol Officer at the California Highway Patrol academy and working as a Senior SIU Investigator at Progressive Insurance, conducting field investigations of suspicious auto property damage and injury claims.

Dean began their career at Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Senior Claims Adjuster, Team Director, and SIU Adjuster, where they performed in-person field adjusting, investigated auto bodily injury claims, and achieved excellent metrics for first/third party contacts and claims resolution. Dean also gained negotiation skills while interacting with claimants and their legal representation.

Before entering the insurance industry, Dean served in the Army National Guard as a Corporal.

Dean Cornelison PI, CFE, CIFA, CIFI pursued their undergraduate education at California State University, Fresno from 1986 to 1991. During this time, they were a B.S. candidate, focusing on the field of study of Business - Financial Services.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Dean Cornelison has obtained several certifications throughout their career. Dean became a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) in November 2020 through the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE). In January 2007, they acquired a license as a Private Investigator and became the owner of Cornelison Investigation Agency, authorized by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services.

Dean also holds the CompTIA A+ certification, which they obtained in October 1998. Other certifications they possess include Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst (CCIA), Certified Insurance Fraud Analyst (CIFA), Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI), and Fraud Claims Law Specialist (FCLS).
