Shirley Ann Spater DMD, MPH, FADPD, DABSCD has a diverse work experience in the field of dental medicine and healthcare administration. Their most recent position is as the Secretary/Treasurer and Executive Board member of the Medicare/Medicaid/CHIP Services Dental Association (MSDA) starting from 2023. Prior to that, they volunteered for the National Association of Dental Plans (NADP) in 2021, specifically in the Diagnostic Terminology and Clinical Sub-workgroups.

Shirley Ann Spater holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, which was earned between the years 1980 and 1984. Following this, they attended Fairleigh Dickinson University College of Dental Medicine, where they obtained a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from 1985 to 1989. In 1989 to 1990, Shirley completed a General Practice Residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine/The New England Medical Center. Shirley Ann then pursued a Fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry at Duke University Medical Center, Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development, in the field of Health Policy and Administration, which took place from 1992 to 1994. Lastly, they obtained their Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Health Policy and Administration from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gillings School of Global Public Health, spanning from 1993 to 1995.
