Skyland Trail
Ben Hunter, MD, FAPA has a diverse work experience in the field of psychiatry. Starting in 2013, they served as a Resident Physician at Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System, specializing in psychiatry. From 2016 to 2017, they progressed to the role of Chief Resident, focusing on outpatient psychiatry. In 2017, they joined Skyland Trail as the Medical Director of Outpatient Services and later assumed the position of Interim Chief Medical Officer in 2023. In addition to their clinical work, they are also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, a role they have held since 2018.
Ben Hunter, MD, FAPA completed their education in a chronological manner. Ben obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biology from Wake Forest University, where they studied from 2005 to 2008. Following this, they pursued their medical education at Emory University School of Medicine and earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree between 2009 and 2013.

Skyland Trail is a nonprofit mental health treatment organization based in Atlanta. For more than 30 years, we have been inspiring people with mental illness to thrive through a holistic program of evidence-based psychiatric treatment, integrated medical care, research and education. Skyland Trail serves adults ages 18 and older and adolescents ages 14 to 17. We’re not a hospital or lock-down institution, we’re one of the nation's top mental health treatment centers – a voluntary treatment community of clients finding new ways to overcome the limitations of their illness and reclaim their lives. But success is built on a two-way commitment – we’re committed to our patients and we ask our patients to commit to our approach. Each client has to put in the time and effort needed to make real and sustainable progress. As a residential treatment facility, we’re serious about healing and we’re passionate about the community we serve.
