Vernita Whitaker Naylor has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2007, they founded and became the owner of Jabez Enterprise Group (JEGroup), an Integrated Business Resource Company that provides education, advocacy, and support services to individuals and business owners. In this role, they customized programs and services to help clients reach their personal or business needs. Vernita served as the Marketing Director for the Silicon Valley African Film Festival, played a role in the revitalization of the West Oakland community through their position as the Small Business, Retail, Art and Culture (SBRAC) Chair/WOBS Council Advisory Co-Chair for the West Oakland BART Station (WOBS) Project. Vernita worked towards bringing revitalization and economic development to the Richmond, California area as part of the Adhoc Procurement Committee at the U.C. Berkeley Global Campus.

Furthermore, they served as a Park, Recreation and Historical Commissioner for Alameda County, ensuring the safety, funding, and maintenance of parks, recreation, and historical places within the county. And they worked as an Instructor at Scotts Valley Tribal TANF (SVTT), providing instruction in an unspecified subject. Additionally, Vernita has been a member of the Small Business Council for Small Business Majority since 2019.
