Executive VP Products & Markets at Smarter Grid Solutions

Graham Ault has extensive work experience in the energy industry, with a focus on power systems research and development. Graham has worked in various roles at different companies throughout their career. At Smarter Grid Solutions, Graham served as the Executive VP of Products & Markets, leading the product management, market engagement, and R&D functions. Graham also played a key role in the acquisition of Smarter Grid Solutions by Mitsubishi Electric and the subsequent integration plan. Prior to that, Graham was the Development Director at Smarter Grid Solutions, where they were responsible for product management, development, research, innovation, and consulting services. Graham also served as the Founder and Non-Executive Director, supporting the start-up phase of the company.

Before joining Smarter Grid Solutions, Graham worked at the University of Strathclyde as a Professor and Reader, focusing on power systems research, knowledge exchange, and educational programs. Graham led various research consortia and industrial-sponsored research programs. Prior to that, Graham held roles as a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Strathclyde. Graham also worked as a Research Fellow at the same university earlier in their career.

Graham has also served as a Non-Executive Director & Trustee at Community Energy Scotland and worked as a Graduate and Site Engineer at John Brown Engineering. Overall, their work experience spans academia, entrepreneurship, and industry, with a particular emphasis on power systems research and development.

Graham Ault began their education at Boclair Academy, where they attended from 1983 to 1989. Graham then enrolled at the University of Strathclyde, where they earned their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. This program lasted from 1989 to 1993. Graham continued their studies at the same institution and received their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Electrical Power Systems from the University of Strathclyde from 1997 to 2000.
