Richard Wright, CIH, CSP has extensive experience in safety, health, and environmental management. Richard currently serves as the Director of the Office of Safety, Health and Environmental Management (OSHEM) for the Smithsonian Institution. In this role, they are responsible for implementing safety, health, environmental management, and fire protection/life safety programs across multiple locations. Prior to their current position, Richard was the Chief of Safety and Occupational Health for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Director of Safety and Occupational Health for the Department of the Navy. Richard has also held roles as a Senior Industrial Hygienist and Radiation Protection Officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and an Environmental Science Officer for the U.S. Army. Richard has a background in radiation safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental remediation.
Richard Wright, CIH, CSP holds a Master of Science (M.S.) in Occupational and Environmental Health, which they obtained from New York University in the years 1989-1991. Prior to that, they earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Environmental Toxicology and Industrial Hygiene from Clarkson University from 1985-1989. In 2004, Richard attended the Harvard Kennedy School as a Graduate Fellow in the Senior Executive Fellows Program. In addition to their educational background, they are also a Certified Industrial Hygienist through the American Board of Industrial Hygiene and a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certified through BCSP.
