Avi Carmi has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Avi has held various technical roles in different companies and industries.
Avi started their career in 1987 at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where they led a team that developed prediction and scheduling systems for NASA's Deep Space Network. Avi then worked at Hughes Aircraft Company, where they researched and developed image processing algorithms and artificial intelligence technologies. During this time, they also developed a genetic programming system for classification.
In 1992, Avi joined HRL Laboratories and worked on the Image Understanding Architecture (IUA) project. Avi contributed to the development of intelligent cursive handwritten character recognition algorithms and received high performance awards for their contributions.
