James M. Allan has a strong background in archaeology and has held various roles throughout their career. James M. started their career in 1991 as the Executive Director at the Institute for Western Maritime Archaeology. In 1992, they joined William Self Associates, Inc. as the Vice-President and Principal Investigator, and later became the President in 2015. In 2017, they worked as a Principal at PaleoWest Archaeology. Currently, they are employed at SNA International as a Scientific Recovery Expert and Senior Archaeologist.
James M. Allan obtained a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, which they completed in 2002. Prior to this, they pursued an M.A. in Maritime History and Underwater Research at East Carolina University, from 1995 to 1997. Before their graduate studies, James earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Economics from Saint Mary's College of California.
