Yongsik Yoon

Yongsik Yoon is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in database systems and query processing. Currently serving as a Senior Engineering Manager at Snowflake since August 2019, Yongsik Yoon focuses on cloud-scale query platforms, including query language and advanced analytics. Previously, Yongsik Yoon held roles at Amazon Web Services (AWS) from February 2017 to August 2019, contributing to the Aurora MySQL Database Engine, and at SAP from December 2005 to January 2017, where Yongsik Yoon was a key contributor to the HANA project, including the development of the query optimizer. Earlier experience includes being a Software Researcher at TIM System Inc., where Yongsik Yoon implemented a cost-based query optimizer that influenced the foundation of the HANA database engine. Yongsik Yoon's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and completion of Ph.D. coursework in Computer Science at Seoul National University.
