Shaping Our Appalachian Region
Danna Barnett currently serves as the Startup Program Coordinator at Shaping Our Appalachian Region, Inc. (SOAR), focusing on building relationships with educational institutions and implementing entrepreneurship initiatives across Appalachia Kentucky. Previous experience includes a role as a Business Consultant at BAM Travel Tours, where Danna enhanced brand visibility through marketing strategies and social media management. Additional roles encompass community organizing with Appalachians for Appalachia, presenting to venture capitalists at The Diverse Perspective, and various administrative positions at the University of California, Los Angeles. Danna began the professional journey at the University of Kentucky, where responsibilities included support for undergraduate research initiatives and mentoring first-generation students. Danna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Kentucky and a CORe Credential of Readiness from Harvard Business School Online.

SOAR’s mandate is to fill the economic gaps left by the decline of the coal industry. Our task is to rally our communities to help us achieve these goals together for the good of all. Our communities knew if they were going to regain economic stability, it was going to have to be an inside job. They crossed county lines to coordinate ideas and join forces, gaining regional consensus for a sustainable and widespread plan — The Blueprint for the Future of Appalachia. SOAR was tasked to be the flag-bearer for the plan in 2013. We believe in the future of Appalachia. And thanks to you, we’ve got a plan to prove it.
