Senior Director, Education at Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine

Kathleen Scogna has over 30 years of experience in the medical and scientific writing and editing industry. Kathleen is currently the Senior Director and Managing Editor/Director of Patient Education at The Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. From 2016 to 2019, they were a freelance medical writer and editor at Hunter Editorial Services LLC, writing and editing articles, grant proposals, patient education pieces, infographics, social media, web content, textbooks, test questions, and consumer-health books. From 2008 to 2016, they were the Director of Patient Education at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, managing and directing all activities associated with writing, editing, and producing print and online patient education materials. From 1998 to 2008, they were a Senior Development Editor at LWW, managing and developing basic science and clinical medical textbooks. From 1993 to 1998, they were a freelance science/medical writer and editor, writing for a variety of medical publications and developmentally editing and managing undergraduate science and medical textbooks. From 1988 to 1993, they were a Development Editor at Mosby-Year Book.

Kathleen Scogna began their educational journey at The Johns Hopkins University, where they earned a BA in English between 1984 and 1987. Kathleen then went on to Washington University in St. Louis to earn an MA in English between 1986 and 1988. Finally, they returned to The Johns Hopkins University to earn an MS in Science/Medical Writing between 1993 and 1996.
