Senior Platform Engineer at Sofar Ocean

John Orcutt has worked in the engineering and research field for over 10 years. John began their career in 2012 as a Graduate Assistant Researcher and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Texas A&M University. There, they studied the optical properties of course mode atmospheric aerosols and ice crystals in laboratory and field experiments, as well as tested a newly developed optical particle counter as a short-term air quality monitoring and diagnostic tool. In 2015, they joined Jacobs as an Atmospheric Environments Analyst, where they supported the Natural Environments Branch at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. John was also the Deputy Project Manager and Lead Software Engineer of a mission-critical software tool that created a single atmospheric profile at a consistent effective vertical resolution from multiple sources. John co-led a large group to develop the software tool and wrote detailed requirements and developed a tool in Python to display all weather data and various analysis of the weather data. In 2019, they joined ClimaCell as a Senior Software Engineer, Engineering Team Lead, and Software Engineer. In 2021, they moved to Sust Global as a Senior Data Engineer and in 2022, they joined Sofar Ocean as a System Engineer.

John Orcutt received a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Meteorology from Mississippi State University in 2012, and a Master of Science (MS) in Atmospheric Science from Texas A&M University in 2014.
