Ryan Waters has held various roles in the engineering and IT fields since 2014. In 2014, they worked as an IT Intern at Spectrum (EDU Solutions), where they developed a web page to consolidate and streamline time reports from Basecamp, utilizing Bootstrap CSS and PHP. Ryan also established a video conferencing system to assist a remote sales force, and modified email reporting to deliver nightly XMPie submission status reports. In 2015, they worked as a Simulation Mechanical Engineer Co-op at Sikorsky Aircraft, where they fabricated a feasible safety work platform for access to aircraft fuselage within the given lab constraints, and contributed to the design of a new simulator lab base platform. In 2016, they worked as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at James L. Taylor Manufacturing Company, where they designed and prototyped a miter version of the company's Narrow Stile Door Clamp and accompanying welding fixtures for ease of manufacturing, and managed the materials processing, programming, and operations of the CNC vertical mill. In 2017, they worked as a Senior Mechanical Engineering Intern at James L. Taylor Manufacturing Company, where they participated in the design and construction of a Big Bundle Lift project to improve the automated Flooring Nester, and developed a mechanism that would compress bundle pallets from machine for processing. Finally, in 2018 they began working as a Mechanical Engineer at Manta Product Development Inc., where they are implementing perception based robotic pick and place station to handle rapid fulfillment of a large variety of delicate and uniquely shaped items utilizing ROS and C++ control schemes, integrating various end effectors (EoATs) and evaluating their performance and limitations for picking boundary items, and designing automated soft bag rigid insert set-up and retrieval system to be integrated with pick and place station packing presentation system. In 2022, they began working as a Robotics Integration Engineer at Soft Robotics Inc.
Ryan Waters attended Rochester Institute of Technology from 2013 to 2018, where they earned a Master of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 2018, they obtained a FE Mechanical certification from the NCEES and a SolidWorks - Mechanical Design Professional certification from Dassault Systèmes.
