Soi Dog Foundation
Soi Dog’s mission is 'To improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals and to ultimately end animal cruelty'. Established in 2003 in Phuket, Thailand, Soi Dog is Southeast Asia's largest organisation helping stray animals. The sanctuary in Phuket is currently home to over 1,800 animals. Soi Dog also has a treatment facility in Bangkok and responds to crisis situations throughout the region. The foundation operates entirely from donations. Today, Soi Dog’s spay and neuter programme, CNVR (Catch, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return), is at the forefront of its operations and is aiming to reduce the number of animals born into a life of suffering and abuse or neglect, eliminate rabies and stop the spread of other infectious diseases among dogs and cats, benefitting both animal and human communities. It carries out CNVR programmes in various locations around the country and is also committed to a long-term CNVR project in Bangkok. Since 2003, Soi Dog is responsible for neutering and vaccinating over one million dogs and cats throughout the country and is now completing over 21,000 procedures every month. Soi Dog Foundation was instrumental in seeing the dog meat trade abolished in Thailand and the introduction of new animal welfare laws that came into effect in 2014. The fight actively continues in other Asian countries. The sanctuary in Phuket is home to the most advanced shelter dog and cat hospitals in Southeast Asia dedicated to the treatment of stray animals. Soi Dog’s adoption programme finds loving homes for rescued dogs and cats. Our Education and Community Outreach programmes are actively teaching local schoolchildren and communities about animal welfare and helping to implement a different approach to the treatment of stray and domestic animals in Thailand. The Phuket sanctuary welcomes visitors and volunteers from all over the world, year round.
